Description
Hansan Yedameun Sogokju Brewery in Chungcheongnam-do upholds the centuries-old Hansansogokju tradition with this 16% ABV expression. The grain bill pairs glutinous rice with regular rice, while nuruk, soybeans, and gujeolcho (wild chrysanthemum) add fermentation depth and a distinctive herbal finish. At this strength the body carries real weight - expect a viscous, almost oil-like texture - yet the wild chrysanthemum introduces an unexpected lightness in the aroma, like dried wildflowers pressed in a book. The 2018 Korea Woorisool Top Prize in Yakcheongju is the highest modern validation of this heritage style. Serve at 12-16°C with kkotge-tang (blue crab stew) where the herbal complexity matches the briny sweetness, or with pyeonyuk (pressed meat slices) for a refined banchan pairing.
