고운달 오크
Goundal Okeu is a 52% ABV omija spirit from Gyeongsangbuk-do with oak aging that adds a structural dimension to an already complex base. The marriage of five-flavor berry and barrel wood is uncommon in Korean spirits, and the 2017 Korea Traditional Liquor Awards Grand Prize in the distilled category validates the execution. The nose is striking: omija's bright tartness and floral lift meet toasted oak vanillin, creating an aromatic profile that shifts between fruit and wood with each breath. On the palate, the body is medium-full with a polished, almost viscous texture that the oak has helped develop. The omija brings its characteristic five-flavor progression — sour, sweet, bitter, pungent, salty — while the oak contributes warm vanilla, a gentle tannic framework, and subtle smoky undertones. These elements are well-integrated rather than competing, each taking turns across the palate. The finish is long and layered, with omija tartness persisting beneath oak warmth and a clean, tannic close. At 200ml, this is a premium pour designed for focused appreciation. Best neat at room temperature alongside raw fish, galbi, or bossam.
