Description

Grand Tigre M1988 is a 12% ABV fruit wine from Wolryuwon Brewery in Chungcheongbuk-do, blending Campbell Early grapes with omija (magnolia berry) in a distinctive dual-fruit cuvee. The omija addition transforms what could be a straightforward grape wine into something altogether more complex and distinctly Korean. The nose opens with familiar grape candy sweetness, then the omija emerges - tangy, herbal, and slightly peppery, adding a multi-dimensional lift. On the palate, the body is medium with a juicy attack led by the grape's sweetness, but the omija weaves through the midpalate with its characteristic five-flavor complexity: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and pungent all appearing in subtle waves. The interplay between the two fruits keeps the palate active and curious. The finish is moderate with lingering spicy warmth from the omija and a clean grape sweetness underneath. Serve at 8-12°C with creamy cheese where the omija's tang creates exciting contrast, alongside Korean-style appetizers and jeon, or with plated desserts where the botanical complexity adds unexpected depth.
