Bambich Meoru (Wild Grape) is a 16.9% ABV spirit from Jeollabuk-do, made with wild grapes (meoru) from Muju. At 16.9%, this sits in an interesting middle ground — stronger than most fruit wines but lighter than full distilled soju, occupying a liqueur-adjacent space that allows the wild grape character to remain prominent. Muju's meoru grows in mountain forest conditions, producing berries with concentrated pigment and high natural acidity. The nose opens with a gentle but clear wild-berry lift — dark grape skin, fresh bramble, and a restrained sweetness that avoids heaviness. On the palate, the body is light-medium with a notably clean, smooth texture. The spirit manages the rare feat of carrying grape character without turning overtly sweet: the fruit presence is felt more as aroma and texture than sugar. A light tannic grip from the wild grape skins gives the mid-palate definition. The finish is moderate, clean, and refreshingly precise, leaving a subtle berry-skin whisper. The 360ml bottle is compact and suited for neat sipping. Serve slightly chilled at 10-14°C with galbi where the spirit's clean line complements charcoal-grilled richness, bossam for textural play, or sashimi where the subtle grape lift enhances clean fish flavors.
