Description
Meoru Iyagi (Wild Grape Story) is a 12% ABV fruit wine from Muju in Jeollabuk-do, made with domestically grown Korean wild grapes (meoru). Muju sits in a mountainous valley where wild grape vines have grown for generations, and this wine captures the essence of that specific place in a compact 350ml bottle. The nose is bright and berry-led - fresh blackberry, wild raspberry, and a clean, slightly tangy sweetness that immediately distinguishes it from cultivated grape wines. On the palate, the body is light-medium with a friendly, approachable texture. The sweetness is easy and inviting without being heavy, yet the fruit character stays clear and lively enough to transcend simple dessert-wine territory. Wild grape's natural acidity provides quiet structure underneath, giving each sip a sense of direction. The finish is moderate, clean, and leaves a pleasant berry freshness. Recognized with an Excellence Prize at the 2013 Korea Traditional Liquor Awards in the fruit-wine category, this wine delivers genuine regional personality in an accessible package. Serve at 8-12°C with raw fish (hoe) where the berry acidity refreshes, alongside mild cheese and crackers, or with light appetizers that do not compete with the wine's delicate wild-berry character.
