Description

Seongeup Folk Village Omegi Makgeolli is a 12% ABV makgeolli from Suldakkeuneunjip Brewery in Jeju, crafted from foxtail millet (jobssal) and nuruk - the same simple recipe that Jeju villagers have brewed for generations. Designated as Jeju Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 3, this is not a modernized interpretation but a living continuation of folk-village brewing. The millet gives it a distinctive nuttiness and earthy depth that separates it from rice-only makgeolli: the nose carries toasted millet and a faint yogurt tang, while the palate is creamy and lightly sweet with a savory undertone that rice cannot produce. The finish is moderate and warm, with a grain earthiness that recalls volcanic Jeju soil. Serve at 6-9°C with heuk-dwaeji gui (Jeju black pork) for the ultimate hyper-local pairing, or alongside jeon where the creamy body cushions the oil.
