Myeongpumhongju is a 38% ABV soju from Jeollanam-do that showcases jicho root (lithospermum erythrorhizon), a traditional Korean ingredient noted for its deep red-purple pigment and subtle medicinal properties. Combined with rice, this spirit carries the distinctive crimson color and herbal depth that defines Jeonnam's hongju (red liquor) tradition. The nose opens with an earthy, root-forward aroma - dried herbs, a faint floral quality from the jicho, and underlying warm rice distillate. On the palate, the body is medium with a smooth, refined texture. The rice provides a clean, neutral backbone while the jicho root introduces its signature character: a subtle, dry bitterness with earthy medicinal undertones and a faint sweetness reminiscent of dried roots.
