이상헌 소주
Isangheon Soju is a 52% ABV distilled spirit from Chungcheongnam-do, made from concentrated distilled soju base spirit. Despite being classified under makgeolli in some databases, this is unmistakably a high-proof distilled spirit — one of the strongest traditional Korean spirits available. The single-ingredient declaration (distilled soju base) suggests a focused product that prioritizes the purity and intensity of the distillation itself. At 52%, this demands respect and careful pouring. The nose is powerful — concentrated grain spirit, warm alcohol vapor, a deep caramel-malt sweetness, and a faint fruity ester that emerges once the initial alcohol impression settles. On the palate, the body is full and commanding with a viscous, coating texture. The heat is significant but not aggressive, suggesting quality distillation with clean cuts. Beneath the proof lies a concentrated grain core with toasted, almost nutty depth. The mid-palate has an intense, gripping quality where grain and alcohol lock together. The finish is very long and warming, with persistent grain sweetness that emerges as the alcohol warmth gradually fades. The 500ml bottle requires measured pouring. Serve in very small amounts at room temperature with the boldest Korean foods — charcoal-grilled meats, heavily fermented dishes like hongeo, or aged kimchi where the spirit's raw intensity matches the food's power.
