Hwanggeum Barley Distilled Spirit 17 is the entry-level expression in Chungcheongnam-do's Hwanggeum Barley lineup, bottled at an approachable 17% ABV. Nearly 40% domestic barley drives the grain bill, producing a toasted, nutty aroma that is uncommonly pronounced for such a low-proof distilled spirit. Nuruk fermentation adds savory umami depth, while fructose and citric acid fine-tune the balance between sweetness and acidity. This spirit occupies a unique niche: it has more aromatic intensity than diluted soju but less burn than higher-proof craft spirits. It serves as an effective stepping stone for drinkers moving from beer or makgeolli toward distilled Korean spirits.
