Hanju is a 35% ABV distilled soju from Gyeonggi-do, crafted from Korean rice and wheat nuruk with purified water. The use of wheat nuruk rather than rice-based ipguk is a meaningful distinction - wheat nuruk introduces a broader, more complex enzymatic and aromatic profile to the fermentation, resulting in a spirit with more character than ipguk-based counterparts. The nose opens with a warm, bready quality - the wheat nuruk's signature - alongside clean rice, a subtle honeyed sweetness, and a faint herbal note. On the palate, the body is medium with a polished, refined texture.
