모월 연
Mowol Yeon (the 'Lotus' edition from Mowol Brewery) is a 13% yakju from Gangwon-do made with domestic rice and Korean wheat nuruk. The lower ABV positions it as a lunch-through-dinner companion rather than an after-hours sipper. The nose unfolds with milled rice and a subtle dried-flower note — not quite lotus, more like pressed wildflowers in an old book. The palate is light-medium with a smooth, almost slippery texture that glides past rather than gripping, and a midpalate grain sweetness that is restrained and brief. The finish is clean with a very mild bitterness, like the aftertaste of roasted barley water. Serve at 8-11°C with sundubujjigae (soft tofu stew), where the stew's silky tofu and gentle chili heat need a lightweight, non-competing partner, or with dongchimi-guksu (cold radish water kimchi noodles) for a refreshing summer pairing.
