매아랑
Maearang is a 10.7% ABV fruit wine from Gyeongsangnam-do made exclusively with domestically grown maesil (green plum), a stone fruit deeply embedded in Korean culinary and preservation traditions. Unlike maesil-cheong (plum syrup) or maesil-ju made by simply steeping plums in sugar and soju, this expression undergoes a fermentation process that converts the plum's natural sugars into alcohol, producing a drier, more structured result with genuine wine-like complexity. The 10.7% ABV places it in comfortable dinner-wine territory — enough body to stand alongside savory dishes, yet light enough to drink through a meal without fatigue. Maesil's natural malic and citric acid content gives the wine a built-in tartness that prevents the fruit sweetness from becoming one-dimensional. The bottle received an honorable mention at the 2013 Korea Traditional Liquor Awards, confirming its standing among nationally recognized maesil expressions.
