Korean Traditional DrinkIhwaju
이화주
Ihwaju is an 8.5% ABV traditional rice drink from Gyeonggi-do, produced by Yangju Goliga Brewery using domestic rice and glutinous rice from Yangju city, purified water, and rice nuruk. The texture is exceptionally thick and velvety, almost porridge-like, created by the combined fermentation of both regular and glutinous rice with rice-based nuruk rather than wheat nuruk. This product has an extraordinary competition record, winning the Korea Liquor Awards grand prize four consecutive years from 2019 to 2022, plus the grand prize at the 2022 Cham Balhyo Awards, establishing it as one of the most consistently awarded Korean traditional drinks in recent history.
