Songnoju

송로주

Songroju is a 48% ABV spirit from Chungcheongbuk-do that infuses non-glutinous rice with pine knots (sorongi), pine needles, and poria mushroom (bokryeong), producing a layered coniferous aroma backed by earthy fungal depth. The distillation captures the volatile oils from fresh pine material, yielding a nose that opens with clean resin and forest floor before settling into a warm, almost medicinal finish. Designated Chungcheongbuk-do Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 3, this spirit preserves a centuries-old infusion technique where poria — a parasitic fungus found on pine tree roots — acts as a natural flavor bridge between the sharpness of pine and the softness of rice grain. The 700ml bottle carries serious proof, but the botanical complexity keeps the palate engaged rather than overwhelmed.
