Korean Fruit Wine

Daegwanryeong Black Raspberryju

대관령 복분자주

Daegwanryeong Black Raspberry Wine is a 16% ABV bokbunja fruit wine from Hongjiwon Brewery in Gangwon-do, made with Korean black raspberries grown in the highlands around Daegwanryeong Pass. The elevated altitude produces berries with concentrated flavor and a more intense aromatic profile than lowland-grown fruit. The nose is rich with deep, jammy bokbunja — dark berry, dried plum, and a subtle floral undertone. On the palate, the 16% ABV provides a warm, fuller body that gives the wine real presence, more akin to a dessert wine than a casual fruit pour. The bokbunja sweetness is generous but the fruit core remains vivid, with each sip carrying definition rather than blur. A gentle tannic grip from the berry skins adds structure, and the finish is long and warming, with ripe berry echoing through. Serve at 10-14°C with blue cheese or aged gouda where the concentrated sweetness balances salt and umami, alongside nut-studded desserts where the berry depth creates a rich harmony, or simply on its own as a contemplative after-dinner pour.
