Sumeungol Takju is a 12% ABV makgeolli from Jeollabuk-do, produced by Gongdongche Gongan Sujak with a notably high glutinous rice ratio of 28.9%. That generous proportion of chapssal creates an exceptionally dense, creamy body that coats the palate from the first sip and distinguishes it from lighter, rice-forward makgeolli. Traditional nuruk at 2.9% drives the fermentation, adding earthy complexity beneath the grain sweetness rather than letting it plateau into one-dimensional softness. At 500ml and 12% ABV, this is a makgeolli built for substantial pairings — pan-fried jeon where the oil needs a creamy counterweight, fried chicken that calls for textural contrast, or boldly seasoned kimchi dishes where the round mouthfeel smooths sharp edges.
