Korean CheongjuRedeudyu RED DEW
레드듀 RED DEW
RED DEW is a 13% ABV wine from Gangwon-do, made with pesticide-free wild grapes (meoru) that grow in the province's mountainous terrain. The decision to use pesticide-free fruit is significant — it means the grapes develop their own resilience to mountain conditions, often producing thicker skins and more concentrated flavor compounds as a result. This wine channels that purity into a style that prioritizes precision over sweetness. The nose is refined and focused — dark cherry, wild berry, and a clean mineral-herbal note that speaks to the mountain terroir. On the palate, the body is light-medium with an exceptionally smooth, flowing texture. The fruit expression is clean and vivid without heavy sweetness, creating a profile that feels more like a sophisticated table wine than a typical Korean fruit wine. A well-calibrated acidity runs through the mid-palate, providing structure and food-pairing flexibility. The finish is neat, moderately long, and leaves a clean, slightly mineral tail. Winning the top honor (Best Prize) at the 2011 Korea Traditional Liquor Awards in the fruit-wine category places this among the most acclaimed Korean meoru wines. The 750ml bottle is ideal for formal dining. Serve at 10-14°C with raw fish (hoe) where the acidity cuts cleanly, alongside grilled fish, or at a Korean full course (hanjeongsik) table where its elegance matches the occasion.
