Korean Traditional Drink

Odirang

오디랑

Odirang is a 13% ABV mulberry-based drink from Guksundang Gochang Myeongju Brewery in Jeollabuk-do, blending 18.2% Korean mulberry with purified water, fructose, distilled spirit, citric acid, and yeast. The mulberry proportion is generous enough to deliver genuine fruit character rather than a faint flavoring. The nose opens with ripe dark mulberry and a jammy sweetness, underscored by a subtle tang from the citric acid. On the palate, the body is medium with a smooth, rounded flow — the mulberry delivers a velvet-textured berry depth that feels richer than many light fruit wines, while the fructose and spirit components keep the finish balanced rather than cloying. There is a pleasant astringency in the tail that recalls the skin of the berry itself. The 330ml format makes it an easy single-serving choice. Serve at 8-11°C with grilled meats where the berry sweetness provides a fruity counterpoint to char and salt, or alongside banchan where the smooth middle ties savory side dishes together.
